More defects have been found in the Navy’s Red Hill fuel tank. They could be the source of a leak earlier this year that caused the release of 27,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Navy contract workers completed a series of vacuum box tests and discovered 15 holes in the tank. Earlier this month, military officials said they had found three holes in the same tank. The holes were located in welding repairs made during the tank’s recent maintenance.
The Navy says they will begin testing the tank’s pipes next week. Results from recent lab tests show the water near the Red Hill facility remains safe to drink.
