Helping Hand is tackling the housing crisis and how to help folks on the edge of homelessness with our guest today, EAH Housing. All Things Considered Honolulu Host Dave Lawrence speaks with EAH Housing Vice President Hawai‘i Kevin Carney. According to their website, they’re a nonprofit corporation founded with the belief that affordable rental housing is the cornerstone to sustainable, living communities. They were established in 1968, and since then, they’ve continued with a mission of rental housing development. EAH develops low-income housing, manages 111 properties in California and Hawai’i, and plays a leadership role in local, regional and national housing advocacy efforts.
Helping Hand is a weekly afternoon drive feature on HPR1 stations Fridays at 5:30pm and online here. Each Friday afternoon, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization or event that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks who are among the most vulnerable in the community.
