Helping Hand is a weekly feature each Friday afternoon on HPR1 stations statewide at 5:30pm as part of All Things Considered (and then online here). ATC Local Host Dave Lawrence puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks who are among the most vulnerable in society. This week we’re learning about the United Way. Our guest to share with us some of the many ways they’re helping out those in need in the state is the new CEO & President Cindy Adams.
According to their website, the Aloha United Way acts as a change agent and an efficient community fundraiser, helping out hundreds of local nonprofits that try to improve lives by addressing the community’s most pressing needs in early childhood education, poverty prevention and homelessness, health and human services and may other areas affecting the most vulnerable in society. They base their effort around their belief that everyone should have the building blocks for a good life: education, income & safety net.
