Kanekoa at Blue Note Hawaii
Sailing in on a wave of blissful sound, Maui’s Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winning band Kanekoa has become a global phenomenon. Powered by electric ukuleles and exotic rhythms, these ukulele masters ride the waves of Hawaiian roots with jam band energy, creating a sound they call Hawaiian jam-rock. Audiences never fail to swoon over their soulful originals and crafty covers interpreted with pure originality. The Grateful Dead’s drummer Bill Kreutzmann goes so far as to call them, “the Hawaiian Grateful Dead.” David Hidalgo of Los Lobos says, “These guys scare me. They are that good.”
Their latest release, Songs from the Great Disruption honors 25 years of Kanekoa redefining the potential of the most popular instrument in the world, the ukulele. The album is produced by none other than multi-Grammy™ winner Steve Berlin of Los Lobos and features such prominent artists as; Jake Shimabukuru, Amy Hanaialii, John Cruz, Steve Berlin, G Love, Tavana, Uncle George Kahumoku Jr., Eric Gilliom and Kumu Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett.
