ShareThisThere is a thriving tango dance subculture in Hawai’i, but the excitement and nuance of tango music is less understood. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa offers a close up on the music, in preparation for a Tango Extravaganza organized by Iggy Jang.
The Tango Extravaganza opens Sunday April 3rd at the Palace Theatre in Hilo. Performances continue Tuesday April 5th at the Hapuna Beach Prince.

ShareThisEarlier this month, the world bid farewell to one of Hawai’i’s most important musicians, Kahauanu Lake. Lake was a scholar, composer, singer, and ukulele player who influenced the style and substance of Hawaiian music beginning in the late 1950’s.

ShareThisPlastics are everywhere including inside the human body. The US Centers for Disease Control reports 93% of the population has BPA, a chemical used in plastics, in their urine. SafePlanet, a UN based campaign, hopes to stem the tide through art. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.

Few know that the poet was also a fine baker---Victoria Gail-White will re-create a “Black Cake” from Dickinson’s own recipe for the “Tea with Emily Dickinson” this weekend.
