For the last 27 years, a small theatre company has been raising the hopes, skills, and spirits of students in the Kalihi area. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa visited Farrington High School’s T-Shirt Theatre to find out how they use humor and drama to address teen issues.

Brahms’ first Piano Concerto is the next featured work for the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra. Acclaimed pianist Norman Krieger chose this work for his Carnegie Hall debut and will perform it in Honolulu March 22nd and 23rd. Krieger says it is a masterwork that needs to be heard live for the intimate interaction between piano and orchestra.

Lana`i island has the lowest unemployment rate in Hawai’i at 3.9%. That’s a result of having only one major employer, Castle and Cooke, which owns 98% of the island. In 2011, after workforce reductions and an ongoing exodus of residents, Castle and Cook told Hawai`i lawmakers Lana`i is up for sale.
