Works by Tom Young, Gordon Tang, Craig Mason, Jon Ogata, and Pat Kramer are included in the Honolulu Woodturners show at Nohea Gallery.

How would you make a bowl out of wood?  You can imagine a lot of chipping and gouging to achieve the simple shape, but there is a quicker, more elegant way.  It’s called wood turning where the wood chunk spins as you skim away any excess.  HPR’sNoeTanigawa reports on fine examples of this ancient art on view now at Nohea Gallery.

The Honolulu Woodturners are a remarkably hospitable bunch according to all sources.  They meet bimonthly to share ideas and resources.  there are dozens of examples of their work on view, including a whole section devoted to Family Promise.  The full price of wood pieces in that section will be donated to Family Promise, an organization helping parents with children who are homeless.
