More information is coming out on Typhoon Haiyan, the devastating storm that has affected more than 4 million people in the Philippines.

While members of local Filipino communities are beginning to organize relief efforts, many are still having a hard time even making a simple phone call to relatives back home.  HPR’s Molly Solomon has more.

You can donate to the American Red Cross by sending a check payable to American Red Cross, with “Philippine Typhoon” in the memo line. Send to Hawaii Red Cross, 4155 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, HI 96816. You can also donate online at redcross.org or by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS. For those searching for missing relatives in the affected region, the American Red Cross has set up a family tracing services hotline for Hawaii families at 808-739-8115.

UNICEF is also accepting donations online for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Monetary donations can also be dropped off at the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu. A round-table discussion on relief efforts for typhoon victims takes place November 23rd from 9 am - 12 pm at the Filipino Community Center.  For more information, call 680-0451.
