Helping Hand - April 10, 2015 complete interview with Parkinsons Hawai'i

Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR1 stations and online here. Each Friday afternoon, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and others who are the most vulnerable in the community with All Things Considered Honolulu Host Dave Lawrence. April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month. This week we’re learning about Saturday's annual conference with the National Parkinsons Foundation Hawai‘i President Kevin Lockette, and Tiloi Lolokai, who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinsons and has lived with it for twenty years.

The annual conference and educational symposium Saturday will feature one of their most comprehensive panels ever assembled by the organization, with doctors, researchers and other experts speaking and answering questions from attendees. It's free and open to the public, presenting an "Overview of the latest Parkinson's Treatment," covering topics like Deep Brain Stimulation and Managing Non-Motor Issues. It’s an event happening tomorrow, Saturday April 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Medical Pavilion.
