Helping Hand - June 26, 2015 complete interview with Helping Hands Hawai'i

Helping Hand meets Helping Hands Hawai'i this week, on our regular Friday feature on HPR1 stations statewide where we put the spotlight on an organization or event that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks who are among the most vulnerable in the community. This week, All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with our Jan Harada, President and CEO, of Helping Hands Hawai‘i.

According to their website, Helping Hands Hawai'i evolved from the establishment of the Honolulu Council of Social Agencies’ Volunteer Placement Bureau. With a mission to connect individuals, families, and organizations with essential human and material resources, Helping Hands Hawai‘i also has a program we’ll hear about today called Ready to Learn– The Ready to Learn program helps Hawai’i's less fortunate children get the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. Through July 15th, a donation of $10 will fill a backpack with basic school supplies. Donations are also being accepted at any American Savings Branch and other locations detailed in the conversation.
