Each Friday afternoon, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the most vulnerable in society, the disabled and other folks in need. This week HPR All Things Considered local host Dave Lawrence speaks with Ala Kuola, who work in the prevention of domestic abuse. Our guest Ed Flores, their Executive Director.
Ala Kuola is the only nonprofit organization on O'ahu whose primary focus is to assist victims of domestic violence in obtaining a Temporary Restraining Order against their abuser through Family Court of the First Circuit. They also offer a sports-based program for coaches to instill good values in young people, utilizing the special relationship coaches have with young male athletes to prevent future domestic abuse.
