Helping Hand - May 15 2015 complete interview with Kahumana Community, 3rd Annual Farm Festival and Community Seed Exchange at Kahumana Farm & Café

Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR. Each Friday afternoon, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks in need with All Things Considered Local Host Dave Lawrence. This week we’re learning about the 3rd Annual Farm Festival and Community Seed Exchange at Kahumana Farm & Café, this Saturday, 11am to 6pm at Kahumana Farm & Cafe in Wai'anae. We’re privileged to hear a lot more with our returning guest, Kahumana Community Executive Director Tom McDonald.

“Planting Seeds of Hope” it’s called. This event at the Kahumana Community is free and open to the public with local food and produce,  keynote speakers on traditional foods and agriculture, hula performances, live music featuring bands like the Ka’ala Boys, Backwards Shaka, Blues Tribe and more, herbal gardening and aquaponics workshops for the aspiring home gardeners, activities for kids, traditional Hawaiian crafts and kalo pounding demonstration, yoga, community seed exchange and much more. Other ways to support them include having a retreat on their organic farm, visiting their cafe for a meal, attending their first Friday or joining them for one of their unique farm-to-table events listed at their website.
