Goodwill Hawaii has gotten the green light to open up a charter school in West Oahu.  The State Public Charter School Commission approved application this week to open in the first Goodwill charter school inside their building on Lauwiliwili Street in Kapolei, making Hawai‘i the fourteenth state to feature a Goodwill charter school.

As of now admission will be limited to students in the Kapolei area, and the school’s capacity will be capped at 100 students.  Katy Chen is the Chief Administrative Officer for Goodwill Hawaii.  She says the school will specialize in smaller classroom sizes for students that struggle in larger schools.

Chen says the school should be up and running by next July

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
