In less than three weeks, President Trump is to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore. Or maybe not. The president said yesterday-- the meeting might be delayed. Retired Air Force General Dan Leaf believes whether or not, the meeting takes place as scheduled, is less important than continuing to work on the relationship between the two countries. Leaf is a former deputy commander of U.S. Pacific Command here in Hawaii--and was later Director of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies. He tells HPR News Director Bill Dorman, he’s still encouraged by the broader discussion that’s underway about the future of the Korean peninsula.

It’s a fitting capstone to Lois Ricciardi’s 30-year career as director of the Kauai Chorale.  She and her singers, all volunteers, some amateurs, some professional, have been invited to perform on Memorial Day at Lincoln Center in New York City. They’ll be performing an especially demanding work: Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.  As she got her singers ready for the prestigious event, she spoke with Chris Vandercook.
