Maui County has been struggling with a growing crisis in its health care for some time now, as state-owned facilities face runaway costs and the cutbacks in services that accompany them.  The State has been working toward a solution for some time, and now the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation’s Maui Regional Board has selected Kaiser Permanente to operate Maui Memorial, Kula Hospital, and Lanai Community Hospital.  Avery Chumbley is the Board chair, and he joined the show via phone to tell us more.

Who drops out of college? Well with 50-60% of students never getting their degree, the research done by author Monty Clark has lead to some surprising conclusions. Clark dug deep into the data of the common characteristics of those who do not complete their education and it’s not who you think. That means current outreach programs are truly missing the mark when targeting the students that they think might need the most help. Monty Clary joined the show to tell us more about the results of his study and how it lead to his latest book I Wish Someone Had Told Me.
