The U.S. relationship with trade tracks most of American history, but in the last fifty years, free trade has become increasingly more politicized. The latest trade lightning rod is the Trans Pacific Partnership. As we have heard from both presidential candidates, neither is in favor of the agreement, though once Hillary Clinton supported it. East West Center Senior Fellow Marcus Noland is in Honolulu from the Washington DC based Peterson Institute for International Economics where he is the Director of Studies.

Hawaii’s Energy Future: HECO’s Alan Oshima
Where to go from here...when it comes to Hawaii’s energy future and a 2045 a hundred percent renewable standard, that’s the question on the minds of many in our state - from lawmakers to consumers. With the recent Public Utilities Commission decision to nix the NextEra deal to acquire Hawaiian Electric, how HECO will move forward is a big concern for the utility - and for its critics who believe it has not acted in the public interest. Alan Oshima is president and CEO of HECO and he’s with us this morning.
