UHERO County Economic Forecast: Dr. Carl Bonham
Hawaii’s economy is, and always will be dependent on outside forces our physical isolation and the importance of tourism to the local economy mean we need to keep a close eye on trends far from home as well as those close at hand. That’s the business of UHERO, the University of Hawaii’s Economic research organization, which has just released a county-by-county report on the state’s economy. Dr. Carl Bonham is the UH Economic Research Organization's Executive Director, and he’s with us this morning.

Hashtag I am bad at this is their latest offering, tracing current trends in communication and the fallout from an overdependence on technological devices, including the smartphones we all know and love. The philosophies of East and West developed for centuries without much awareness of one another -- ether of their differences or their similarities. As a result, the differences run deep, and the East-West Center has led an effort to enhance the dialogue between them. Each has much to learn from the other. The Center is the site of the 11th East-West Philosophers’ Conference, which begins tomorrow on the UH Campus with more than 300 participants from some 40 countries. For UH Chinese Philosophy Professor Roger Ames, it’s the culmination of a 38-year career at UH, and he’s on the line with us now.
