March For Our Lives Honolulu

Students around the country are planning pro-gun control rallies for this Saturday. Here in Hawaii students from both public and private schools are finalizing plans for similar rallies. Organizers Hayden Hawkins and Imiloa Bourland sat down with us to talk about what’s being organized. Hawkins attends University Lab School. Bourland is from Punahou.

Legislators Consider Tougher Invasive Species Control Measures

Invasive species have been altering Hawaii’s environment since the first human contact, but recent generations have seen new invasives arriving at an ever-increasing rate.  To date there’s has been no single statewide agency to deal with the problem, which is why Senate Bill 2399, which would create a “Hawaii Invasive Species Authority,” is currently being considered.

Civil Beat Reality Check

Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard was quick to respond to the national groundswell in favor of gun control by voting, along with a vast majority of her colleagues, on a bill to increase security at schools. Does her vote give us an accurate picture of her record on gun control measures?

Hawaii Pacific University Opens Esports Arena

The face of collegiate athletics is changing and someday soon the major sporting events of the year may be played only in the virtual realm; so-called E-Sports. Hawaii Pacific University has become an enthusiastic early adopter of e-sports; last month it opened the state’s first e-sports arena at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
