Civil Beat Reality Check

An important court decision is coming upon the Louis and Katherine Kealoha case; the former police chief and his City Prosecutor wife face a variety of conspiracy charges along with at four co-defendants, and federal prosecutors want them tried all together. Their alleged co-conspirators are pushing for separate trials, and a judge will decide next week whether they get their wish.

Understanding Rapid ??hi?a Death

Rapid ??hi?a Death has devastated Hawai?i Island forests since 2014.   It kills quickly, begins with few outward signs, and can be spread easily by hikers. Local scientists have been working with colleagues as far away as South Africa and Iowa to study the species of fungi that causes the disease and there are some signs of hope that this killer of native forests can be contained.

Of Mice and Men on Stage

Nobel Prize-winning novelist John Steinbeck probably understood the heart and soul of America during the Great Depression as well as anyone. His novella Of Mice and Men has survived for generations by reminding us that even the losers among us have their dreams to pursue.
