Classical Pacific, May 17, 2018: Clara and Robert

Clara Wieck Schumann and Robert Schumann had a long partnership. They met when Clara was eight and Robert seventeen, and Robert was so impressed with her playing that he decided to study with Mr. Wieck, during which time he lived with the family. They married when she became of age. During her lifetime, Clara was known as one of the most important concert pianists of the era, while Robert was known as an important composer. In recent years, Clara's compositions have been recognized, performed and recorded regularly. Today in the first two hours of the program, I'm playing three works by each of them. In the third hour, John Kalani Zak, who gave birth to Classical Pacific, will take over the chair and share music that he's chosen for today while I help to host an HPR event.
