Recently Boom Gaspar, the Pearl Jam keyboardist born and raised in Hawai`i, released the first taste of side-project Po & the 4Fathers, via a 7" single on Record Store Day. He and band-members Kawai Hoe and Kiliona Young spoke to HPR’s Dave Lawrence about their upcoming debut release.

Yesterday, Farrington High School celebrated national Bike Month with Green Machines IV. That’s a sustainable personal transportation show organized by science teacher, Jonathan Lott. Students brought their bikes , Eki Cyclery provided prizes, and K-VIBE offered free bike repairs. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.
This Friday is National Bike to Work Day, and The Bike Shop will be providing snack for bikers at Thomas Square during morning and afternoon rush. On Thursday night there will be a family night cruise and a Ride of Silence is set for Saturday in remembrance of fallen cyclists. Sunday, ride your bike to the Zoo with the family, get in free and get goodies too.

The State Historic Preservation Division wants to hear from
residents as they craft a new historic preservation plan. The office is seeking input from residents on how to best define and set priorities for historic preservation statewide. The state has been
without an approved plan since 2001.

This week, two of the most anticipated events of Maoli Arts Month take place in Honolulu. The first event is the MAMO Wearable Art Show Thursday night at Hawai’i Theatre. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa interviewed the tattoo artist whose designs and models have been showstoppers in the past.

Hawaii County has
completed a long-term project with the parks. Five and a half years ago,
earthquakes damaged a number of park facilities on the island. And now,

Nearly 35-hundred troops attended a ceremony
at Schofield Barracks officially welcoming them back to American soil. After a
year-long deployment on some of Afghanistan’s most volatile turf, soldiers and
family members share some of their biggest challenges over the past year and
thoughts upon returning to Hawai`i.

Is it Ka’u’s sunny climate with afternoon mists? Is it the volcanic soil? Connoisseurs around the world are waking up to the unique flavor of Ka’u coffee and this weekend, a celebration is in store. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.
