Kaua’i’s “Festival of Lights” Reignites

Kaua’i’s Festival of Lights opens this Friday at the County Building in Lihu’e.  The grounds and royal palms will also be lit, and HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports the annual “Lights on Rice” parade will help kick off holiday festivities.

Taimane: ‘Ukulele Dancer

At age 23, ‘ukulele player, Taimane, already has some serious show business credits to her name---she was a regular in Don Ho’s Hilton show, and has been travelling internationally with her instrument.  In this final installment of HPR’s ‘ukulele mini-series, HPR’s Noe Tanigawa talked with Taimane about her new CD.

Maui Keeps the Holiday Pops Tradition Alive

Holiday music helps make the season, and the lively Maui Pops Orchestra has a concert of favorites coming up this Sunday.  HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports.

The Maui Pops Orchestra performs “Holiday Pops” this Sunday, December 2nd, 3pm at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.  Tickets start at only ten dollars.    For tickets, check the MACC website:

Billy Childs: Pianist on the Edge (Between Jazz and Classical)

Composer, pianist, Billy Childs has ten nominations and three Grammys to his credit.  He’s been a Guggenheim Fellow and has completed commissions for the LA Philharmonic, and many others.  HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports on two upcoming performances of his music.
