Robert Cazimero of the legendary Brothers Cazimero has a new solo release out called "Hula 2," in which he plays piano and sings classic hula songs, as well as his own compositions. HPR’s Derrick Malama asked Robert about a passage he wrote in the liner notes for his album.

The Hawai`i Island band Kahulanui draws its inspiration from Hawaiian Swing music orchestras of the 1920s and 30s. The band's debut album is called "Hula Ku`i." Leader Lolena Naipo Jr. stopped by HPR recently along with fellow members Patrick Eskildsen and Jesse Snyder. Derrick Malama asked Naipo why he chose to revive the sounds of that bygone era.

“Hula,” and told HPR’s Derrick Malama of his intent to leave behind an archive
of songs for future generations. The project evolved from a conversation he had

Grammy Award-winning guitarist Jeff Peterson has two unique concerts coming up. One--later this month--traces the orgins of the guitar from its roots in the Arab world to today's Hawaiian slack key. And the other--on Sunday--reunites Peterson with shakuhachi Grandmaster Riley Lee. Peterson recently brought his slack key guitar to our studios where HPR's Derrick Malama asked him about the first concert with Lee. For her first Hawaiian music album, Kainani Kahaunaele won 3 Hoku Awards. After 7 years, she's back with her much anticipated sophomore release, Ohai Ula. She recently stopped by our studios with her producer, Shawn Pimental, to "talk story" and play songs from the new album. HPR's Derrick Malama asked Kainani - who wrote most of the songs - about her inspiration for the first track on the CD, Eia Ke Aloha.

The 2010 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, Hawaii's version of the Grammys, were handed out last night in the Hawaii Convention Center. Maui's Uluwehi Guerrero came away with two trophies for his release "Uluwehi Sings Na Mele Hula Aloha," including Hawaiian Album of the Year and Best Liner Notes. HPR's Derrick Malama recently spoke with the Kumu Hula about the creative process that went into putting together his album of mostly falsetto music. Runs 2:14

It features classic songs recorded with The Sons of Hawaii in the 1970's, as well as new music produced with the group's latest lineup.
