9:00 The Early Muse with Ian Capps  German Cantatas for Lent  As Kantor at Leipzig’s Thomaskirche, Johann Schelle championed the German language in sacred cantatas.  His “Aus der Tiefen” is a magnificent version of the Penitential Psalm #130.  It is joined by a German rendering of the Miserere by another fine but anonymous Leipzig composer and Lenten cantatas by Johann Michael and Johann Christoph Bach, a generation before Johann Sebastian.
