The Horatio Alger Association annually gives scholarships to young people who have had to overcome adversity. This year, a Kapa`au boy is the only Hawaii resident to receive the honor. From the Big Island, Sherry Bracken tells us more.

Malachi will also receive an expense paid week in Washington D.C., meeting other scholarship recipients and taking part in college preparatory workshops.
