study, farmers receive only 19 cents out of each dollar spent on locally grown

The Honolulu City Council
is expected to make a historic decision tomorrow, by confirming the appointment
of a person who is considered the 4th most powerful government official in the state, behind the governor,
lieutenant governor and the Mayor of Honolulu. HPR’s Wayne Yoshioka caught up with the designated
appointee at City Hall.

Visitor arrivals to Hawai’i are expected to top $8.5
million this year, and result in about $16 billion in total spending. State lawmakers have been
discussing ways to either raise taxes or divide the revenue to pay for
government operations and infrastructure upgrades.

The Honolulu City Council
will convene a special meeting this afternoon (Friday,1:30 pm) to discuss
homeless housing and services on O’ahu in an effort to look at solutions for
this growing problem. HPR’s Wayne
Yoshioka accompanied a team of outreach workers who meet with the homeless on
the streets year-round.
