Hawaii Island residents will hold their own memorial service
this week for Senator Daniel Inouye. While each of the islands holds its
special ties to the late Senator, he leaves a special legacy on the Big Island.

Hawaii County
residents are hearing more about a study on local agriculture. The County
commissioned the study to determine how much food eaten on the island is
actually produced there. It's a first step in taking a closer look at food
self sufficiency. From Hawaii Island, HPR's Sherry Bracken tells us

Farming is still a
big part of Hawaii's economy. That's especially true on Hawaii
Island. According to a report this year, the Big Island stil has a lot of
room to grow more crops. HPR's Sherry Bracken has more about the state of

Local
residents in West Hawaii just got the news that Social Security will no longer
hold office hours in Kona, in space given them rent free by Hawaii
County. From Kona, HPR's Sherry Bracken tells us what the local spokesman
says about the situation.

Last week, racial and
cultural disturbances caused Kona's Kealakehe High School to be closed for a
day to let things calm down. Now some school administrators and community
leaders have taken a first step towards addressing core issues beyond last
