House Committee Addresses Moped Bills
Lawmakers have been trying to outlaw noisy mopeds in urban Honolulu for years. The House Transportation Committee considered two bills to ban the use of off-road mufflers and require inspections for compliance. But, the issue is far from being settled as HPR's Wayne Yoshioka reports.

Prospects for the Akaka Bill
The Federal Recognition bill for native Hawaiians is expected to come up for a crucial vote in the U.S. Senate this session. The Akaka Bill cleared the full House twice in the last 10 years but always stalled in the Senate. HPR's Wayne Yoshioka reports prospects for passage of the measure have never been better.
The Akaka bill has not been scheduled for a vote in either the U.S. House or Senate.

Unemployment Tax Relief Proposed
Governor Linda Lingle announced a proposal during her State of the State address that would provide tax relief for businesses facing up to a thousand percent rate hike for unemployment insurance. The Legislature is attempting to expedite passage of a bill before tax assessments are mailed to employers in March. HPR's Wayne Yoshioka reports.
