Evening Concert gives listeners a chance to unwind through the pau hana hours.
You'll enjoy classic performances, along with weather updates and musical
birthdays and anniversaries.
ABOUT THE HOST:
Originally from northern Virginia, Joan grew up playing piano and cello. She
graduated from Oberlin College in 1974. As a Smithsonian-Peace Corps Volunteer
in Palau, she worked as a field botanist and taught piano and other
instruments. After earning a Ph.D. in Plant Ecology at UH in 1986, Joan worked
for The Nature Conservancy and US Department of the Interior in Honolulu and
Washington, DC. She is an Affiliate Graduate Faculty in UH Manoa's Ecology,
Evolution, and Conservation Biology Program. She has served on the Hawaii State Legacy Land Conservation
Commission since 2007, and is a board member of the Maui Classical Music
Festival.
Joan Canfield has been a member of HPR since 1981. Before taking over the reins
of Evening Concert in 2006, she was the host of Early Morning Classics and
co-host of Great Songs with Gary Hickling.
Joan's second career as classical host has opened up a new avenue of learning
and enjoyment in sharing musical gems and curios with HPR listeners.
