The Symphony Exploratory Committee 2011

ShareThisThe opera season in Honolulu is ending on a high note with a grand production of Verdi’s La Traviata. In light of the Honolulu Symphony’s bankruptcy, these could have been the final symphonic performances of the year. A ray of hope, however, has appeared on the horizon. That hope is based largely on the terrific people involved in a new non-profit called the Symphony Exploratory Committee: Head of the pack, Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Oswald Stender stepping up to the plate again, with former Hawaii first lady Vicky Cayetano a former symphony board member and remember her very brief tenure as CEO of the HSO; Paul Kosasa, president of ABC Stores; Russell Ogata formerly head of the Hawai'i Government Employees' Association, Barron Guss, president of Altres Corp.; attorney Ken Robbins; Mona Abadir, chief executive officer of Honu Group; Mark Polivka, president of Monarch Insurance; Mitch D'Olier, president of Kaneohe Ranch Co.; and Gabe Lee, executive vice president of American Savings Bank. Mahalo for all your efforts thus far--we will walk beside you on the road ahead! Find extended interviews with Oz Stender: Vicky Cayetano: Lynne Johnson, Symphony Foundation board member:
