Maui KIPM 89.7: The goal has been met!

Way to go, Maui! Your newest public radio station -- made possible by your heartfelt commitment and generous financial support -- is ready to go on the air. The state-of-the-art transmitter has arrived on Maui and installation is near completion at its home in Ulupalakua. KIPM 89.7 will be signing on during The Conversation at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 1 -- don't miss it! Fundraising was completed yesterday afternoon (3/30), and thanks go to the hundreds of Maui-based supporters who helped "build" KIPM. Here's the KIPM/KIPO program schedule. Tune-in, enjoy and let us know what you think about your new station.

100% more public radio is coming your way and you made it happen. Thank you for your support and participation.

The KIPM campaign goal was $187,625. HPR supporters on Maui pledged to raise the necessary funds in order to put the new station on the air in early April. Local businesses and volunteers worked hard to keep the campaign on track and finish before the April deadline. Mahalo to the Alexander and Baldwin Foundation, who contributed a $20,000 matching gift, to Whole Foods Market Kahului for hosting a Community Support Day, and to the Fred Baldwin Memorial Foundation, which pledged a $5,000 matching challenge gift.

Contributed funds have been used to purchase and install a new state-of-the-art transmitter ($100,000) and to cover overhead expenses (electricity, rent & contract engineer services are $87,625/year) for the station’s first year of operation. When completed, Maui County listeners will have an entirely new, separate, and distinct array, or program stream, of public radio programs from which to choose.
