Latest Shark Attack Could Be Linked to Turbid Water

A 60-year-old man was bit by a shark yesterday afternoon at Pakala Beach on the west side of Kauai.  The latest in a string of shark attacks to hit the islands is the 11th this year. 

While experts are stumped as to why there has been a sharp increase in shark encounters this year, Donald E. Heacock, of the Division of Aquatic Resources at the DLNR, believes yesterday’s shark attack may be linked to turbid water brought on by heavy rain in Kauai.
