Part Maori, raised in New Zealand, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s charisma and golden voice have made her one of the world’s best loved sopranos. In the late 90’s, Te Kanawa left the stage after a painful divorce, but recently she has emerged with renewed energy and enthusiasm. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa spoke with her from London in advance of her concerts in Hawai’i.
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa performs in recital September 29th at the NBC Concert Hall. Proceeds will benefit the Hawai’I Opera Theatre. For Maui music lovers, she performs at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center Saturday, October 1st.
