After a tough year of reorganizing, the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center on Maui, embarked on its educational programs this year with the goal of exploring visual arts as an agent for social change. With its well-used community studios and gallery, HPR’s Noe Tanigawa checked in to see how this important upcountry art center is doing.
A new 150 foot mural collaboration with Baldwin High School students is scheduled for unveiling September 17th. See the “Re-Evolution” mural at Hui No’eau in Makawao, where a new exhibit by two of Hawai’I’s up and coming artists, Eli Baxter and Jaisy Hanlon, opens on September 24th. Other schools have requested projects, which will continue to be offered free of charge as long as funds can be raised.
