The learning curve for going straight
David Hipp retired from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice in 2009 after 30+ years of working with at-risk youth. He moved with his wife back to her home state of Hawaii. He "unretired" in January 2010 when he was appointed to the Executive Director position of the Office of Youth Services. While his office supports the intent of SB 419, it opposes any dilution of appropriations itemized in the executive biennium budget.

The new three Rs: Readin’ and Ritin’ and Reapin'
Nancy Redfeather is the Director of the Hawaii Island School Garden Network that started in 2008.  The Network now works with 65 schools public private and charter K-12 to assist them in their development of a school garden program.  The Network provides funding, training and connections with island resources including a statewide summer conference for School Garden and Class Teachers.

And Miles to go Jonesin for Coltrane
Steve Jones will play bass with Satomi Yarizumi, Darryl Pellegrini, and saxophonist Rob Scheps this Saturday at HPR’s Atherton Performing Arts Studio. It’s a tribute to the legacy of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
