Bernie Worrell is a funk pioneer now working on several new projects. His background as a classically-trained keyboardist has been invaluable through the years as a sonic architect with Parliament/Funkadelic and the P-Funk All-stars, as well as the Talking Heads, his own Woo Warriors, countless sessions for other acts, plus various solo and collaborative efforts. The latest installments of his musical expression include groups SociaLybrium, WesN’Worrell, and his upcoming jazz standards project, “Bernie Worrell: Standards” out March 15th (get more information at bernieworrell.com). HPR’s Dave Lawrence sat down with this soft-spoken giant of music to explore how he began playing classical music on the piano at three, and has continued to share his gift over a lifetime.
