July 19: Danny Carvalho – Contemporary Hawaiian - Danny Carvalho showcases new directions in his return to HPR’s intimate Atherton Studio. The concert by the 23-year-old slack key artist will feature his vocals on many pieces, as well as celebrate the diversity of his creative influences. Accompanying Carvalho are Wil Tafolo on bass and Von Baron on drums.

July 26: Stefan George & Larry Spalding – Blues
– Veteran Tucson bluesman returns for his annual Atherton concert this time
with a twist! He’s enlisted the support of local bluesman Larry Spalding to
help bring the blues to the Atherton. Sounds like another great matchup.
August 15 and 16: Karrin Allyson* - Ballads, Blues &
Beyond – 4-time Grammy-nominated Concord recording artist Karrin Allyson will join us for an intimate evening in our very own Atherton Studio, following a wildly successful, nation-wide tour with the Newport Jazz Festival. She will be accompanied by guitarist Rod Fleeman. Karrin is known for her elegant phrasing and has been described by the New York
Times as “a no-frills singer with a
feline touch and impeccable intonation”. Indeed.

23: Sandy Tsukiyama – A Tribute to Lady Songwriters –Local song stylist and host
of the Brazilian Experience, Sandy Tsukiyama has assembled a luminous group of
sidemen to pay tribute to lady songwriters from both sides of the equator.
August 31 - (Sunday, 4 PM) - The Ardente Duo -
Violinist Darel Stark is also a violist,
composer, conductor and educator. Since his debut at age seven, he has
performed on three continents including concerts at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully
Hall, the Kennedy Center and Weill Recital Hall. He is concertmaster of the
Bach Chamber Orchestra, teaches violin and orchestra at the Honolulu Waldorf
School, and chamber music at Iolani School.
Patricia Hirakouji, holds a
Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington. She has
performed as a chamber musician and featured soloist with the University of
Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, the Hawaii Opera Theater, the University of
Washington Symphony Orchestra, and South Shore Chamber Orchestra.
program will feature the Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano by Cesar
Frank and works
by Beethoven and Eugène Ysaÿe.
