After more
than two years of discussions and meetings, Kulani Prison is now on its
way to being re-opened. The state closed the prison in 2009 to save money, but
now that process is on the verge of being reversed. From Hawaii Island,
HPR’s Sherry Bracken has the story…
Hawaii Island farmers
have more than 6 thousand acres in coffee, with more than half of it in the
Kona districts. The U. S. Department of Agriculture says the state's
coffee industry is worth $33.4 million dollars. And as HPR's Sherry
Bracken reports, it's an industry facing some challenges.

important member of its community this week. He was an educator and a
coach, but he'll be most remembered for his service to others.

Hawaii County will join Maui and Kaua'i tomorrow in
discouraging the use of plastic checkout bags. In a year, you won't be
able to even find plastic bags at checkouts on the Big Island...and in the
