Tax Records Reveal More About Kona History

The Kona Historical Society recently commissioned a look at Hawaii Island's tax records to learn more about Kona during the time of the Hawaiian Kingdom. HPR's  Sherry Bracken talked with Tom Woods of the Hawaii Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives about what he found.

Merrie Monarch Festival Brings Hula, Crafts to Hilo

Hilo is celebrating its biggest annual event --- the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, named in honor of King David Kalakaua.  From Hawaii Island, HPR's Sherry Bracken says events are in full-swing.

Kohala Center Sponsors School Garden Tours

New Cardiology Clinic at Kona Community Hospital

Heart patients on the west side of Hawaii Island are getting some help from a new source.  Kona Community Hospital is addressing a shortage of cardiology care in West Hawaii by forming an alliance with another neighbor island hospital.  From Kona, HPR's Sherry Bracken gives us an update on heart care around Hawaii Island.

Biofuels Company Backs Out of Leases for Hamakua Land

There's a change of plans for more than 700 acres of Hawaii County farmland in Hamakua.  Last year, the county agreed to lease the land, in 16 parcels, to the highest bidders.  But now the company that was the highest bidder on all the parcels---selected just 30 days ago---is backing out of at least half the leases.  From Kona, HPR's Sherry Bracken has more.
