Geothermal power is a controversial topic for some on Hawaii Island. Last week, Hawaii County Council held a meeting on the topic in Puna, close to the site of the state's only geothermal plant. Residents talked about their experiences since the first plant opened in 1981. HPR's Sherry Bracken has more.
The Kona Historical
Society recently commissioned a look at Hawaii Island's tax records to learn
more about Kona during the time of the Hawaiian Kingdom. HPR's
Sherry Bracken talked with Tom Woods of the Hawaii Mission Houses
Historic Site and Archives about what he found.
Hilo is celebrating
its biggest annual event --- the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, named in honor of
King David Kalakaua. From Hawaii Island, HPR's Sherry Bracken says events are in full-swing.

special project for a think tank on Hawaii Island. The group provides

Heart patients on the
west side of Hawaii Island are getting some help from a new source. Kona
Community Hospital is addressing a shortage of cardiology care in West Hawaii
by forming an alliance with another neighbor island hospital. From Kona,
