Legendary Philly soul band The Stylistics is returning to the state for a three island tour this weekend. Popular in the islands for decades, original member Airrion Love took time to call HPR’s Dave Lawrence in advance of the visit.
Matisyahu is that Hasidic Jewish reggae artist from New York you may have seen or heard over the last several years. Tremendously popular around the world, and here in the islands, he’s returning for a pair of shows tomorrow and Sunday in Hawai`i. Ahead of the dates, HPR’s Dave Lawrence got a call from him.
Local O`ahu reggae act The Green has had an impressive couple of years. In 2010, the island group dropped a debut album that sailed into the Billboard Reggae Album charts, where it remains over a year later. They supported it with multiple coast to coast mainland tours. This weekend they’re playing hometown shows in Honolulu and Kahului with reggae giants Steel Pulse and Matisyahu.
Legendary musician and actor Kris Kristofferson has been living full time in the islands since 1990 and raised five children at his place out in Hana. This Saturday he’s doing a special benefit show at the MACC for Lokelani Ohana, who provides housing and programs for people with developmental disabilities, and spoke with HPR’s Dave Lawrence.
One of the most well-known reggae acts in the world, Steel Pulse, is heading back to perform on four islands. HPR’s Dave Lawrence got a call from their leader, guitarist & vocalist David Hinds, no stranger to playing live in Hawai`i.
