This weekend popular national comedian Craig Shoemaker, aka The Lovemaster, returns to Honolulu for a series of shows at the Hawai`i Comedy Theatre (at the Sheraton Princess Ka`iulani) in Waikiki. The comedian who has performed for four presidents called HPR’s Dave Lawrence and talked story about some of his unique island connections.
The band America is in the islands. Having played Kaua`i and O`ahu, they move to Maui tonight and the Big Island Saturday. HPR’s Dave Lawrence caught up with original members Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley before the show last night and talked about the ways they've made a strong connection to Hawai`i over nearly forty years of performing here.
The contemporary music act Paramore performed in Hawai`i for their debut concert in the islands last night. The trio of Hayley Williams, Jeremy Davis and Taylor York took time to speak with HPR's Dave Lawrence before the show at Waterfront at Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu.
Right now the Spin Doctors are in the islands. Sure, there are always a few spin doctors around, but this is the band… the Spin Doctors… They played last Saturday in Kona and hit the Royal Lahaina Resort this Saturday. HPR’s Dave Lawrence spoke with head Spin Doctor, vocalist Chris Barron, who has a pretty special connection to Hawai`i.
Another major music act is debuting in Hawai`i. Following in the footsteps of Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin and countless other chapters of island music history, Korn performs at the historic Blaisdell Arena tonight. HPR's Dave Lawrence spoke with front-man Jonathan Davis, who reflected on the band's efforts to play here, and his own personal connections to the state.
